Version 0.8 is Now Available!

Finally, after a hiatus of Buzzbird releases, I have cooked up a new version of Buzzbird!  Here’s what’s in it:

New Features

  • Support for identi.ca
  • Support for OAuth/xAuth authentication on Twitter.
  • New Feature that allows you to filter tweets by service.  Hate Foursquare and Blip.fm updates?  Filter ‘em out!
  • Support for web proxy servers.
  • Indicator for protected updates.
  • Indicator/link on updates that provide location information.
  • Separate Quote and Retweet actions – now you can decide on a case-by-case basis whether you want to do a “native” re-tweet, or just quote someone else’s update.
  • Reduced the amount of data that is stored in the DOM, which should improve performance a bit when switching between home timeline/mentions/direct messages.
  • Newer, slightly-more-attractive action buttons.
  • Moved the character counter to be closer to the tweet authoring section.

Bug Fixes

  • Buzzbird will no longer display the direct message action button for users that do not follow you.
  • Buzzbird will no longer display the retweet action button for users that have protected their updates.
  • Mentions by people who you do not follow will now show up in your home timeline.
  • Fixed a bug that causes the quote and reply button to not always work when viewing conversations or single-user timelines.

Visit the download page to get it while it’s hot.

Thanks for the update! The new version looks cool.
How about adding GNTP support for BB? This would work for growl on windows and mac. Just let me know, because I wrote an GNTP add-on for songbird ;)

    Keep up your great work!

    Hello,

There seems to be a problem with version 0.8 and identica, it does not save and remember any identica account settings. The basic support is there though, you can log on to your identica account with Buzzbird in it’s “unconfigured” state, you just cannot register the account like you can with Twitter. For the rest Buzzbird looks good, so will be giving it a good bash.

Still, I really would like to have identica support working properly for BB to be able to take over as my client of choice, which it certainly has the potential for. What I especially like is the ability to really run it everywhere (CentOS5, latest Ubuntu, Doze, whereever), which I cannot do with the latest Python and Adobe Air apps.

    Keep up the good stuff!

Hello! Thanks for the update! However, every time I try deleting a tweet, it says, “Sorry. There was an error deleting that status update.” Could you look into it, please? Thanks!

    Hello,
I have been using buzzbird for a few days now and have to say I like it better than the other twitter apps I have tried. It is simpler and easier on the eyes.

I have noticed that this program is open source. What license is it and where can I download the code?

    Thank You,

    Hi Jonathan,

Glad you like it! The source is available under the MIT license, and it’s currently hosted on GitHub. Its GitHub page is here: http://github.com/mdesjardins/buzzbird

Like the app but need to see in the same App Twitter and Identi.ca. For now, support for Identi.ca is not really there because Buzzbird don’t keep and cannot see Twitter and Identi.ca in the same windows.

I’ll come back to BB when this feature will be working. Dommage! because I prefer the look and function of BB over Gwibber.

Very minor issue: The application appears to have no icon if run under Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4). I suspect this is because buzzbird.icns only includes resources for the largest icon size permitted on Leopard and higher (Mac OS X 10.5+). I believe this is 512*512. Tiger cannot use icon resources this large so the OS defaults to using the default application icon. Not the worst thing in the world but it seems a shame when Buzzbird has such a beautiful icon of its own.

It is possible to work around this, of course, by creating the appropriate resource and replacing buzzbird.icns or by using conversion tools which effectively do this for you. I used Iconverter to create a new icns file using the contents of the original buzzbird.icns and then substituted the new icons file for the old one. But this would, I think, be a very easy bug to fix if you are so inclined and would let people who might not know which tools to use enjoy the proper icon as well.
